The Fertilizer Safety and Security Council (FSSC) was launched in 2003 by the Canadian Fertilizer Institute (CFI) to ensure a greater leadership role for industry in the stewardship of its products. FSSC members include fertilizer manufacturers, distributors, agri-retailers, and other companies and organizations with an interest in the fertilizer industry.
The FSSC's mission is to promote the safe and secure manufacturing, handling, storage, transportation and application of commercial fertilizers, thereby protecting employees, transportation workers, first responders, farmers and the general public from risks due to accidental release and criminal misuse of, or environmental emergencies involving, fertilizer products.
