The Fertilizer Safety and Security Council (FSSC) initiative was launched in 2003 under the leadership of the Canadian Fertilizer Institute (CFI). Membership is comprised of fertilizer manufacturers, distributors, agri-retailiers, and as it evolves it will include other companies and organizations wth an interest in the fertilizer industry.
The concept of the FSSC stems from the desire of CFI and its members to take a leadership role in the stewardship of their products. The FSSC consults extensively with government on policy direction and regulatory issues.
The FSSC approach has been the champion industry-led, world-class Codes of Practice and training programs to manage the risks of fertilizer products through their life-cycle.
Our mission is to promote the safe and secure manufacturing, handling, storing, transportation and application of commercial fertilizers thereby protecting employees, transportation workers, first responders, farmers and the general public from risk due to accidental release, environmental emergency, or criminal misuse of fertilizer products.
