Ammonium Nitrate is valuable as a fertilizer for the production of healthy food in Canada, but it can also be dangerous in the wrong hands. The ammonium nitrate Code of Practice provides a tool for operators of ammonium nitrate storing and handling facilities to assess and manage their security risks. Canadian fertilizer agri-retailers who sell ammonium nitrate can now provide their employees with the training and information to assist in complying with the federal security regulations and the industry Code of Practice.
The Fertilizer Safety and Security Council, in partnership with Natural Resources Canada, developed this online ammonium nitrate security training course, based on the Restricted Components Regulations and FSSC’s Ammonium Nitrate Code of Practice. The course provides retailers who sell ammonium nitrate with critical information regarding the security measures which are now a legal requirement.
