On Guard for Canada
In June 2005, the FSSC launched an updated awareness program regarding security measures for ammonium nitrate, a product that has been used in several terrorist incidents as an ingredient to make explosives. The program, On Guard for Canada, was published with explicit endorsement by the Canadian Association of Agri-Retailers, the Ontario Agri Business Association, the Atlantic Fertilizer Institute, Quebec Fertilizer Manufacturers Association, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and Natural Resources Canada. A kit including a poster and brochures was distributed to all agri-retailers across Canada.
On Guard for Canada materials urge agri-retailers and their customers to implement security plans, maintain records of all sales of ammonium nitrate and alert law enforcement officials of suspicious activity by calling a toll-free RCMP hotline (1-800-387-0020).
